You all know Puff (the Magic Rabbit), my wonderful Jersey Woolly.
I’ve had him a long time. He’ll be 9 next month- which is getting up there for bunnies. When he was about a year old he developed a Pastuerella infection. That’s a nasty bacteria that’s around anyway, but it can cause some problems for some bunnies. Sometimes they will get “snuffles” which is a respiratory thing. In Puff’s case, he developed abcesses- nasty little infections that had to get lanced, drained, flushed- all with oral antibiotics on the side. It’s tough to get rid of, but his vet at the time treated it very aggressively, and we did get rid of it. He hasn’t had another outbreak until now. Today his eye was pussy and red and nearly closed. So after the kids (human) got off the bus we whisked him to the vet. He has an abcess in his tear duct/nasal canal area. She was able to flush it, and sent him home with some echinacea, another homeopathic immune booster- called Booster, eye ointment, and a prescription for zithromax. Hopefully this will wipe it out. She wants to keep him on Booster and echinacea for life.
That was Puff in the ball pit when he was about a year old. And here he is with C when he was a baby and she was 2.
If anyone is in the central Virginia area, and needs an exotic vet, Dr. Hillary Cook is wonderful. That’s where all my bunnies and hammies go (yes, I have taken hamsters to the vet- kinda silly, but we love them).
More goatie pictures next time.
nose rubs to puff! we’ll be thinking good thoughts and sending healing vibes your way!
Poor Puff! Get well soon lil guy. Maybe mommy can give you some dandelion leaves for a treat…poor sicky.
Oh Puff, you are so cute! I hope you feel better soon.
Mindy – it’s never stupid to take an animal to the vet. You love them, and aren’t we supposed to take care of the ones we love?
Lord, that’s an adorable rabbit! Hope he continues to get better.
And I second the idea that you should always take the pets to the vet. They’re family!
